Adult Stem Cell Research with Other Diseases
Research that is more recent indicates the possibility of using adult stem cells to improve the lives of patients with a much wider range of diseases. Early trials are ongoing in patients with heart disease, leg vascular disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, reconstructive surgery and many inflammatory types of diseases.
Other trials may soon begin in Parkinson's disease, muscular dystrophy, ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), and wound healing, among others. While the outcomes of early research are very promising, scientists have a long way to go to bring new adult stem cell therapies to patients. Cell Therapy Foundation is working toward funding multiple adult stem cell research projects as explained on this site.
